Business Background
The Eden Project is a major consumer of goods and services in the Cornish economy, spending more than £10 million a year with local businesses.We’ve already had dealings with over 3,000 suppliers, some small and temporary, others huge and permanent partners. Many will be the best in the business locally and we are proud that 77 per cent of our catering supplies are currently sourced in Cornwall and some 46 per cent of all our other supplies come through local businesses.
That said there will be some good local suppliers who do not currently work with us and we hear and understand the odd gripe. We review constantly but will not be pressurised by the “we’re Cornish you must use us” mentality. Nor are some areas of merchandise top of our priority list; yes there are some bright ideas out there and some very bright entrepreneurial minds but sometimes their wares are simply irrelevant to what we do or at odds with what our visitors want. Business is business and we have commercial strategies and discerning customers to satisfy.
With an organisation the size and diversity of Eden we have a huge range of procurement requirements and could potentially deal with hundreds of new suppliers. For practical, qualitative, and financial reasons we are not able to deal with every potential supplier and in order to save you time, effort and money, please take the time to read the following pages and if appropriate, complete the supplier assessment form.
