Eden is a not-for-profit charitable Trust. Its mission is to promote the understanding and responsible management of the vital relationship between plants, people and resources leading towards a sustainable future for all. Money raised by the Eden Project is used to further the charitable aims of the Trust.

The Eden Project is operated on behalf of the Trust by Eden Project Ltd (EPL), a wholly owned subsidiary of the Eden Trust. Operating surpluses generated by the Eden Project go back into the Trust to fund its work. The charitable objectives as laid down in January 1996 are as follows:

The Trustees shall hold the capital and income of the Trust Fund to apply the income and such parts of the capital as the Trustees shall determine to promote public education and research in flora, fauna and other aspects of the natural environment and to preserve the same (including the publication of the lawful results of such research) and for that purpose to establish and maintain an environmental education and research facility in which the world's principal ecosystems are reproduced including without predjudice to the generality of the forgoing:

A. the promotion of the study and appreciation of flora horticulture and silviculture.

B. the promotion of the study and appreciation of the environment and the advancement of renewable energy, biodegradable waste and effluent control systems.

C. the promotion of the study and appreciation of ecology and conservation.

D. the promotion of agriculture and the preservation, protection and improvement for the public benefit of any amenity or other land (including buildings) as shall or may at any time be vested in the Charity or in respect of which the Charity shall have any interest where such land is of scientific or historic interest.

E. the preservation and protection of the world's endangered plants and trees.
