Impact on Cornwall

We work hard to make a difference on our doorstep.

Economic

Our economic impact – what we pull into the county on top of what gets our own tills ringing - has been immense and, by the end of the decade, will total £1 billion. It currently (2006/2007) stands at £800 million.

On top of all this is the money we spend ourselves with local suppliers - all 2,500 of them. Some are small and temporary, others huge and permanent partners. 77% of our catering supplies are sourced in Cornwall and 55% of all supplies. It amounts to around £10 million a year.

Community

We’re constantly looking for ways to open what we do to people who could not previously have afforded to experience it, or have other issues or barriers in their lives. On site we have programmes such as the Living Networks initiative and the work we do with our NHS Social Inclusion team and Cornwall College to provide opportunities for local people to come together at Eden and work towards a recognised qualification.

We also work with a range of partners and local communities to explore ways in which the creative process can be used to help rural communities that have lost their main source of industry, such as Cornish mining, traditional farming and Cornish China Clay extraction get back on their feet.
