“Incredible isn’t it? One dose of food poisoning and the future of America is stuffed.” This was Tim Smit’s opening salvo as he jested with a group of the brightest US students gathered to hear him speak at Eden today.

The 40 or so scholars are part of renowned Fulbright programme that has turned out an impressive number of Nobel and Pulitzer Prize winners as well as heads of states. Among the alumni are ‘Catch 22′ author Joseph Heller, architect Daniel Libeskind and Muhammad Yunus, Bangladeshi economist and founder of the Grameen Bank.

Their trip to Eden is part of a one-week tour of the great and good in the UK, which has included a visit to Parliament and the 2012 Olympics site.

Tim shared some pearls of wisdom with the eager group, including how a little bit of chutzpah can go a long way in turning visions into reality and how important it is to keep vanity in check when you make it to the top.
