10th birthdayHelen Skelton
Blue Peter presenter Helen Skelton comes up with the perfect ingredients for a 10th birthday party to remember. And casts her memory back to when she first saw a ‘chewing gum tree’ at Eden.10th birthday

My dream party for Eden’s 10th birthday
The first time I came to Eden I wore a green and black checked shirt with jeans and cowboy boots; that’s the outfit that I would use to inspire a cowboy-themed birthday party.

I’d have loads of stalls and games: a coconut stall, grass tracking, splat the rat, a wheel of fortune. A bit like a country fair, but actually inside the Biomes, so that people could explore the exhibits in a new way.

There would be a massive bbq at night, with loads of corn on the cob and big barrels of homemade cider. The night would finish off with a big barn dance. Then we’d camp. Because no one would want to go home.

I’m particularly proud and fond of my visit to Eden. We launched our Mission Nutrition Blue Peter appeal from there. Joel and I were amazed at the chewing gum tree plant; I don’t think either of us had thought about where chewing gum is from, because everyone is just so obsessed with where it goes!

I also remember I’d spent ages doing my hair, but as we were in a greenhouse all day my hair went crazy. I thought it looked great at the time but looking back it was a big frizz ball.

In her role at Blue Peter Helen Skelton has run through the Namibian desert, kayaked down the Amazon, and most recently done a high wire walk for Comic Relief.

Find out how Helen’s wish comes true each summer at Eden, when the place transforms into a one-day music festival for the Eden Sessions, complete with cider, bbqs and performers in the Biomes – plus a giant outdoor stage.
