Grow your own goji berries and kiwi fruit with James Wong

June 13, 2011
Author: Hannah

James Wong, of Grow Your Own Drugs fame, returns to Eden this July for a talk on how to cultivate rare and exotic foods, from goji berries to kiwi fruit.

Offering a light-hearted, dynamic and innovative alternative to conventional ‘spuds and sprouts’ gardening talks, the TV ethnobotanist reveals how growing your own can be so much more cutting edge than you might think.

From fragrant saffron to wasabi, James shows how these luxury foods can be even easier to grow and more productive than a growbag of tomatoes.

The event takes place on Saturday 2 July at 7.30pm in the Eden Project’s Gallery. Book your tickets by emailing friends@edenproject.com or call 01726 811932.

Although kiwi-fruit sound pretty exotic they are easily grown in the UK by fruit plant / climbing plant nurseries. So, you could either go to a garden centre where most likely they will grow a British grown plant or go to a specialist nursery such as Blackmoor nurseries, Chris Bowers or Reads nursery (or available on-line) where you may get a better range of varieties to choose from. The key thing to be aware of is that, to get fruit, you either need to plant both male and female plants. Or, if there is only room for one in your garden you should choose a self-fertile plant.
