With the first night of the Labyrinth show less than a month away, the award-winning NoFit State Circus has rolled into Eden, set up camp and started rehearsing for the summer extravaganza.

There’s a real buzz among the circus cast and crew as they explore the Eden site and get used to the unique surroundings. Freya Watson, cloud swing specialist, said: ‘It’s beautiful, I really like it – it’ll be nice to be here for a few months!’

Freya also gave us a peek behind the scenes of how the Labyrinth show is evolving: ‘Every day we have our practice time on our own skills, and then we have time with the Director where we do our ensemble stuff and work on the bigger scenes. We try out the new equipment and see what she likes. She’ll also be watching us training and getting more of an idea of what she wants us to do in our “moments”.’

Shaena Brandel, who will be performing on a huge aerial hoop in Labyrinth, offered a further insight on how the show is developing: ‘Although we haven’t worked together specifically with this configuration of artists, most of us have worked with Firenza [Labyrinth’s Creative Director] before…so we’re still getting used to each other as a company and seeing everybody’s skills.

‘It’s going to be really exciting to work in this space…I hope it will be quite intense and quite dramatic!’

Shaena will also be part of the impromptu ‘happenings’ around the Eden site this summer, and offering workshops in the aerial hoop as part of Eden’s Festival of Play.
