Visit a little piece of Eden at the RHS Hampton Court Flower Show

We’ve teamed up with the Royal Horticultural society to create the UK’s largest butterfly rainforest experience at the RHS Hampton Court Flower Show in London this week.

The RHS Butterfly Dome (open 9-14 July 2013) is a re-creation of our world-famous Rainforest Biome. Visitors will be plunged into the heart of a steamy jungle on an elevated walkway surrounded by tropical palms, trees, climbers and orchids.

Butterfly at the Eden Project

While exploring this rich, diverse habitat, you’ll be able to spot the magical shapes and colours of 3,000 tropical butterflies including the unusual Blue Morpho and Owl butterflies. You’ll also get the chance to take a closer look at the magnificent creatures sipping nectar from plants and feeding stations throughout the garden or witness young butterflies emerge from their chrysalises in a viewing cage.

Paul Stone, Eden’s Landscape Manager and designer of the Dome, said: ‘The Dome will bring Eden to the biggest flower show in the world, offering visitors the opportunity to walk through a forest canopy, surrounded by butterflies. The garden champions important messages about plants and people, biodiversity and sustainable environments. Both Eden and the RHS are passionate about raising awareness of these issues’.

The exhibit will form part of a Butterflies and Bees Area at the Show where visitors can learn about native plants and insects as well as tropical ones.

We’ve also taken along popular Freaky Nature family activities including viewing the fascinating microscopic world of bugs and beasts, getting up close and learning about the insect world. And there will be a butterfly-making workshop, where children can make butterflies which will be brought back to Eden and used as part of a display.

We’ve created the RHS Butterfly Dome to celebrate the launch of our new Rainforest Aerial Walkway in June and the introduction of nearly 20 species of tropical butterfly into our Rainforest Biome this summer.

The butterflies at Eden are carefully selected species that bring our Rainforest Biome to life as they flutter around the canopy. Brought to Eden as pupae and hatching out in the rainforests the butterflies feel at home sipping nectar and pollinating our plants.

Tickets for the RHS Hampton Court Palace Flower Show are available online or by calling 0844 338 7506.

Very unique kind of event this is! Really wish to visit! Butterflies are some of the most beautiful but delicate creatures on Earth but unfortunately many butterfly habitats have been lost because of human activities. We want this empire again. The message you are giving through this event is admirable.
