We’d like to say a massive ‘thank you’ to everyone who took part in the Bright Young Things event last Saturday. The excellent work on show was not only enjoyed by the family and friends of participants and Eden staff, but also by members of the public, who were attracted to all the shining talent like moths to a lantern!

For those who don’t know, our annual Bright Young Things showcase features the work of 13–21 year olds from Devon and Cornwall across the fields of music, dance, film, art, photography and writing.

Young people across the South West are preparing to perform and exhibit their creative work at Eden’s Bright Young Things showcase on Saturday (29 January).

The event, now in its third year, is a platform for 13-21 year olds who live, work or study in Devon or Cornwall to show off their creative talents. This year we’ve invited entries on the theme of ‘Home’ in the fields of music, dance, film, art, photography and writing.

There will be more than 50 young people showing their work on Saturday, and we’re encouraging the general public to come along and join in the celebration. As part of Eden’s community programme, under-18s will be admitted free for the whole weekend. For everyone else, entry to all the Bright Young Things events is included in standard Eden admission.

The show will take place across the Eden site. The Core will host the Marketplace of Ideas, where young people will be able to find out about creative opportunities in the South West. The show will culminate in four hours of live music in the Mediterranean Biome from 2pm.

Here’s a sneaky peek at some of the live music that will be on offer:

• Penzance indie four-piece Gary and the Minefield, whose bright, punchy guitar lines and brash vocals are reminiscent of early Arctic Monkeys. Hear them on their Myspace page.

The famous Biomes will be a stunning backdrop to second year of Bright Young Things – a talent competition laid on by the Eden Project to showcase the skills of young people.

The theme for this year’s competition is Real Cool Futures- we wanted young people to be inspired to think about how they could use their skills and talents to shape their future. Come and check out the best entries in the music, art, creative writing, performance and building design categories from 12.30pm.

The full programme of performances:
12.30pm: Welcome and dance performances – Med Kitchen.
1.30pm: Film Showing – The Core Film Room.
3pm: Writing readings – The Core Film Room
3pm: Artwork, building design and photography displays – The Core
4pm: Music performances – Mediterranean Biome.
7pm: Event closes.

And don’t forget- admission is free to under 18’s on the day!
