The Core

The Core is a remarkable, iconic building, a building that stops you in your tracks and makes you think. It was designed to provoke curiosity and honour the way plants power our world.

The building itself is an exhibit; having taken inspiration from the tree, with a central trunk and canopy roof that harvests the sun. Its form mimics nature’s fundamental growth blueprint, opposing spirals, like the spirals on a pine cone or a pineapple or (as the roof of the Core is based on) a sunflower.

Right in the middle of the Core is Seed: a 70 tonne granite sculpture and a symbol of respect for the plant world and an icon to promote the sowing of ideas for the future.

The Core has been listed in the top ten UK buildings for using renewable energy and is a masterpiece of function and aesthetics.

The Core has photovoltaic panels, recycled and plant-based floors, superb insulation and minimized waste in its construction.

Education Centre

On the second floor there are two air-conditioned classrooms which offer excellent and unique conference facilities, these rooms are primarily for schools, so weekends and school holidays are the best times, but bookings can be made at other times subject to availability. Please be aware that there may be schools groups in adjacent rooms.

Outside of the classrooms is a gathering space, which we use for registration and refreshments. If you wish to use this area for any other purpose (e.g. trade stands) there is a charge. Use of the gathering space is subject to availability and can only be booked in conjunction with room bookings.

Film Room

The Film Room is also situated on the second floor of the Core in a bustling visitors area. Available all year round for hire; and situated just opposite the Seed, this is an ideal venue for those who wish to be at the heart of Eden of the experience.
