Take action

Take Action - get your kids outside

There are always fun things to do outside, whatever the weather. It may rain, but who cares so long as you’ve got a rain coat and some wellies?

Wild Play

Dens and Hideaways

Woodland hideaways, flotsam and jetsam shelters, camping under the stairs… to make a den you need some crafty skills and a great dollop of imagination. The den building challenge – find a wild patch or secret corner to build the best den ever.

Camouflage ‘hide and seek’

  1. Get a gang of friends and family together. Do it outside - the garden or a natural environment. Woods are best.

  2. Practise hiding and get to know the area first by playing simple Hide and Seek.

  3. To play camouflage hide and seek

    • Everybody first chooses their hiding place (keep it secret!).

    • Use face paints or make masks to create a camouflage for your place.

    • If making masks, start with a paper plate. Colour it using mud, or rubbed in greens from leaves. Use a stapler to attach leaves, ferns, twigs… whatever required in order to ‘blend in’. Use elastic to create the mask.

    • The seeker hides their eyes while the hiders place themselves so that their faces are visible. The seeker then seeks the creatures.

Wild Art

Den creatures and Forest Tribal Faces

Use recycled or natural materials to make a den pet or crazy creature. You could also read our ‘House of Straw’ story and create your version of ‘IT’.

Why not post or email us a photo of your creations?

Wild Life

Scavenger Hunt

Get a gang of friends together and create a list of items to look for in the garden, park or any other outside space . You could also make collecting pots to take with you (old egg boxes are great!).

Set a time limit and off you go. When you get back – have fun sharing stories and found items.

Don’t forget to wash your hands.

'Mud between your Toes' aims to connect children and young people to the world they live in - to experience, understand and celebrate their sense of place and purpose in the natural world and in their communities.

Eden is a charity and we need help to fund our work. Making a donation will enable more children and young people to take part in our Mud between your Toes programme.
