Time Run and Crystal Maze team hail Eden Escape: Alien Rescue as demand for live game experiences grows
Two of the team behind London’s top live immersive game Time Run say the new Eden Project escape room is one of the most exciting game concepts ever.
Ben Mason and Dean Rodgers have supported immersive production company The Tom Sawyer Effect to create Eden Escape: Alien Rescue which opens at the Eden Project on Saturday, January 14 and runs on selected dates until February 19.
The duo created Time Run together and Dean was also the lead game designer for The Crystal Maze live experience.
Eden Escape: Alien Rescue is set to thrill players who will be locked in an ‘alien quarantine zone’ and have to solve puzzles within a time limit to get out.
Escape rooms such as Time Run have recently exploded in popularity and there are now more than 500 games at more than 200 venues nationwide according to the escape room blogger Ken Ferguson, with 300 games opening in the last year.
They originated in Japan in 2008 by developer Takao Kato and currently there are believed to be more than 3,000 escape rooms around the world.
The immersive experience allows participants to play alongside real actors and is popular with puzzle and gaming fans as well as explorers, team builders, friends and families.
In Eden Escape: Alien Rescue participants have to solve a variety of puzzles and obstacles to build an immune system to save an alien from lethal attack from Earth’s pathogens.
Ben Mason said: “Whether you’re playing as a family or are just a fan of escape rooms and immersive experiences you’re going to have a fun, unique and exciting time.
“As it’s the Eden Project you’re also going to gain a deeper understanding of our scientific world. Whether you succeed or fail in the game you will have some interaction with the alien and be applying the wonders of science to try and save both it and potentially its species.
“It’s been a fantastic opportunity to have worked on Eden Escape and we are delighted with the concept we came up with and really excited to be bringing it to the public.”
Eden Escape: Alien Rescue is supported by the Wellcome Trust and linked to the Invisible You – Human Microbiome exhibition in the Core and a new Invisible Worlds exhibition opening at Eden in 2018.
