Eden becomes a stage for the Bright Young Things of 2010

The famous Biomes will be a stunning backdrop to second year of Bright Young Things – a talent competition laid on by the Eden Project to showcase the skills young people.
Talented youngsters will take part in a showcase of music, dance, photography, film, and creative writing at the Eden Project on Saturday January 30.
The theme for this year’s competition is Real Cool Futures. Eden wanted young people to be inspired to think about how they could use their skills and talents to shape their future. Performing in the music category are The Detonators from Hayle, Wave Seven from Cape Cornwall School and Josiah Mortimer from Truro, all of whom will be performing in the Mediterranean Biome. Eden will also be welcoming back local bands Oracy and Hush with your A’s who gave fantastic performances last year.
The photography category will be represented by Pursuit of Life by Steph Ospina from Swindon, Essential Elements for a Real Cool Future by Eliise Peelo from Kingsbridge, Bicycles by Alex Johnston from Bodmin and Return by India Lawton from Bournemouth. We’ll also be showcasing building design work by Joshua Penk of Lanlivery. All of these pieces will be on display in the Core, Eden’s education centre throughout February 2010.
Joining the photography entries are the winning art installations, I Want the Best of Both by Danielle Willison from Gloucester and Bright Futures by Callum Worsley, Andrew Fowler and Fred Kertai from Brannel School in St Stephen.
Budding creative writers will also be reading their entries, The Greatest Show on Earth, by Milly Anderson, Truro, Train spotting, by Emily Stamp, St Peters School, Guildford, A Shakespearean Tour, by Emma Tarleton, Guildford, Life, by Claire Wooland, Wadebridge, Better Nation, by Jezz Palmer, Gloucester and Them, by Joe Hill, Plymouth, in The Core.
Performing from the dance category will be Green Toes from Bristol , a dance group from Launceston College and some fantastic indoor parkour (free running) from the young people from Trelya Youth Centre.. Both will be throwing some shapes and showing off their moves in the Med Kitchen, in the Link Building.
Sam Kendall, Eden’s Education Development Officer, said: “It’s so fantastic that young people have again shown us how much talent they have.
”The bar has once again been raised and we are so proud to be the platform on which these creative people can broadcast their skills.
January 30 is going to be an exciting day, and a great opportunity for locals to see just what we have going for us in the future from the younger generations.”

12.30pm: Welcome and dance performances – Med Kitchen.
1.30pm: Film Showing – The Core Film Room.
3pm: Writing readings – The Core Film Room
3pm: Artwork, building design and photography displays – The Core
4pm: Music performances – Mediterranean Biome.
7pm: Event closes.
