Doves and Mumford & Sons announced for Eden Sessions

March 2, 2010

Indie legends Doves and folk rock’s newest stars Mumford & Sons have been confirmed for the Eden Sessions.

The show will take place on Friday July 2 and will mark a return to the Eden Project for Doves, who played at the home of the world-famous Biomes in 2002, the first year of the Sessions.

The Manchester band have released four studio albums since 2000 – Lost Souls, chart-toppers The Last Broadcast and Some Cities and last year’s Kingdom of Rust. Single releases have included There Goes the Fear, Black and White Town and Snowden. This April sees the release of The Places Between: The Best of Doves.

Doves were nominated in the British Band category at this year’s BRIT Awards and had their first two albums shortlisted for the Mercury Prize.

Mumford & Sons emerged from the prolific West London folk scene and wowed audiences with their top ten debut Sigh No More, released late last year. Their sound blends the delicacy and lyrical deftness of the finest acoustic acts mixed with the sense of gravity more readily associated with rock bands.

The album, which spawned the singles Little Lion Man, Winter Winds and The Cave, garnered significant attention from radio DJs and critics, bolstering the reputation Mumford & Sons had won through their extensive touring.

Tjarko Wieringa, Eden Sessions Creative Director, said: “We’re really excited to welcome Doves back to Eden after playing such a brilliant gig here in 2002. Mumford & Sons are one of the best new acts around and the combination of the two promises another legendary Session.”

Jack Johnson (June 26 – sold out) and Mika (June 27) are already confirmed as headline artists for this year’s Sessions. Further announcements on the line-up will be made in due course.

The Sessions are famed not only for bringing top acts to Cornwall but also for their festival feel, with extra bands and entertainers playing around the site in the run-up to the main event. Massage and alternative therapies will also be showcased around Eden on the day of each Session.

The 2010 Sessions will be the ninth season of summer gigs at the Eden Project. Performers in previous years include Oasis, Kasabian, Florence and the Machine, Vampire Weekend, Paul Weller, Hot Chip, Muse, Editors, Snow Patrol, Basement Jaxx, Amy Winehouse, Moby, PJ Harvey and The Verve.

Tickets for the Doves and Mumford & Sons Session go on sale to members of the Inside Track programme at 6pm today (Tuesday March 2) and on general release at 6pm on Tuesday March 9. They are priced at £35 plus booking fee.
