Eden, a global garden, based in Cornwall
Eden is a global garden: a place of beauty and wonder which explores humankind's dependence on natural resources.
Here you will find crops, landscapes and wild plants which reflect the amazing diversity of our planet. You can trek through the rainforests, stroll through a typical Mediterranean garden even
Ten years ago this place was a barren, exhausted china clay pit. Now its massive Biomes (one of which is the biggest greenhouse in the world) and millions of plants bear witness to what can be achieved by a can-do attitude and the tenacity of the human spirit.
We even have a little bit of Wild Cornwall in our outdoor landscape
Cornwall's biodiversity - it's varied landscapes, habitats and wealth of wildlife - have been shaped by its climate, geology, geography... and by its people.
Cornwall has lost over 60% of its lowland Cornish heath since 1945. The heathlands, which are partly man-made, started to form 4,500 years ago when woodland was cleared for hunting and agriculture. They need continued management to prevent them reverting.
At Eden we have an area in our outdoor landscape we call Wild Cornwall a beautiful area in our global garden which represents the Cornish heath.
