Our programmes

The following subjects can be taught at either Further Education or Higher Education level, in sessions ranging from ½ an hour to 7 hours. Sessions my be given in one of the Core classrooms, the Biomes or both.

Biodiversity / Conservation

Keystone species; in-situ / ex-situ practices and partnership programmes; land restoration

Botany

Taxonomy; systematics; plant adaptation to climate; “field” classification techniques.

Business (economic rejuvenation)

Ecology

Ecological systems; natural land use verses managed land use.

Environmental issues

Global warming; biotechnology; waste management; agronomy; global use of resources.

Ethnobotany

Plant uses in temperate; warm temperate and tropical regions.

Horticulture

Garden design; plant use; Eden Project management of the plant collections; soils; biological control

Geography

Human and physical geographic issues highlighted at a local, national and international level

Land Management / Restoration / Use

Creation of Eden Project; Cornish land use; rural versus urban environments

Science communication

Role of science; perception of science; methods and appropriateness of communication

Sustainable construction / Architecture

Using Eden Project buildings to showcase and highlight biomimicry; sustainable materials, energy use and best practice

Tourism and Leisure

Issues of tourism; role of tourism in Cornwall; Eden Project as a tourist site; profile of Eden Project and tourist input.
