Legendary indie rockers The Flaming Lips are renowned for their spectacular, eccentric live shows with elaborate costumes, puppets, confetti and lead-singer Wayne Coyne’s man-sized plastic bubble in which he walks over the top of crowds.
The Oklahoma quintet have 13 studio albums behind them, including 1999’s The Soft Bulletin, 2002’s Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots and 2006’s At War With the Mystics.
In 2009, they released acclaimed double album Embryonic and collaborated with Stardeath, White Dwarfs, Henry Rollins and Peaches on a track-for-track cover album of Pink Floyd’s iconic Dark Side of the Moon.
The Flaming Lips have seen success at the Grammys too, winning three awards in total, including Best Rock Instrumental Performance in both 2003 and 2007. They were also nominated in the Best International Act category of the 2007 BRIT Awards.
The band’s anthemic Do You Realize?? was named the official rock song of the state of Oklahoma in 2009 after a public vote, despite opposition from some members of the Oklahoma House of Representatives.
This is probably the Lips' most well-known song. Check out the huge streams of confetti being fired into the crowd!

OK GoQuirky Chicago alt rock four-piece OK Go have three studio albums under their belts, including last year’s acclaimed Of the Blue Colour of the Sky. In 2007, the band won the Best Short-Form Music Video Grammy for Here It Goes Again (see below).
