Acacia Tree (Silver Wattle)

Normally one of the first plants to arrive after a fire in Australia, the Acacia Tree or Silver Wattle is a very fast growing evergreen tree.

It has vivid yellow flowers shaped like buttons, and flattened seed pods. In mountainous areas of the world where it is very moist, lichen grows on the bark, which may describe the 'Silver Wattle Tree'.

Having originated in the southern hemiphere, it likes warm climates and is not frost resistant. It is most often thought of as an ornamental tree, but the wood does have a few uses in furniture making.

In some areas of Europe the Acacia Dealbata tree is used in cut flower arrangements and is known as Mimosa. Not to be confused with our Mimosa Pudica 'sensitive plant' seeds!
