Native to Mexico and Central America, where it is called sandita (little watermelon), this is an easy to grow, lush vine bearing a constant supply of edible fruit throughout the summer.
The adorable looking fruit, which appear like grape-sized watermelons have a taste of cucumber with a touch of lime and can be used as you would traditional cucumbers. Try them whole, in salads, pickled, chopped and added to salsas for extra texture and flavour or they can add a tasty twist to a cocktail!
As they don’t interest pests, resist drought and grow well outdoors given a sheltered yet sunny site, they are even easier to grow than a regular cucumber.
They can also be treated like a perennial providing you with delicious fruit every year.
The seeds can be sown from April to May and harvested July to September.
There are approximately 20 seeds per packet.
Full growing instructions given on packet.
