Eucalyptus Gunnii (Blue Gum)

The Eucalyptus Gunnii is native to Tazmania and Australia, and is an evergreen medium sized tree. Eucalyptus trees have been found in fossils dating back 35 - 50 million years. This variety of eucalyptus is perfect for the climate in the UK as it can withstand temperatures down to -14'c.

Our eucalyptus seeds will grow about 1m a year into a tree with lovely coloured, peeling bark and small frgrant white flowers. Looking like a tree shimmering in blue, the blue gum tree has pointed leaves which can be crushed for oil which has many medicinal uses.

On warm days, a blue shimmer can be seem above eucalyptus trees in Australia, where the oil is evaporating. The eucalyptus oil is highly flammable, and bush fires spread quickly. The eucalyptus tree is able to regenerate itself very quickly from small buds that stay deep inside the trees bark.
