Why Bother?
Coffee is one of the world's most traded global commodities.
Millions of people rely on it for their livelihoods, but the prices they get for their coffee are often lower than their production costs, and production areas frequently overlap with the world's biologically-rich areas.
Sustainable coffee farming considers the growers, the rainforest and...the coffee.
Why Shade Grown Coffee?
Shade grown coffee, harvested from traditional forested farms under rainforest trees:
• Protects the dwindling rainforests
• Uses its natural environment to fertilise the crop
• Provides a haven for threatened wildlife
• Reduces the need for sprays
• Has less problems with soil erosion than coffee grown on full sun farms
• Is one way of raising the quality of life for people in the world’s coffee communities
