Top Tips

Growing pocket gardens successfully

Pocket Gardens provide an easy and rewarding growing experience. The make-up of the Pocket Garden is straightforward, consisting of compost and seed to which water is added. The compost is organically and all our seeds are sourced from reputable seed houses and, where applicable are organic.

Therefore when water is added you have the three ingredients – compost, seed and water – to grow a plant.

However we have found that the most common reasons for lack of success are:

  1. Lack of water initially . Ensure the compost is damp and remember water is taken up by the compost at the outset
  2. Overwatering after above . Waterlogged seed will not germinate and, after germination, seedlings will die through excess moisture
  3. Leaving a Pocket Garden in a cold place; for example on a cold windowsill particularly behind closed curtains. Cold causes “damping off”
  4. Keeping a Pocket Garden with insufficient light
  5. Irregular attention

When shopping can be good for the planet

We've taken care to source the greenest products to sell in our shop. That includes making sure that they're not overpackaged, or that they're made from recycled goods, so that they don't add to the waste mountain.

We also watch our waste at the Eden Project, recycling as much as we can, and even turning the food left overs from our cafes into soil through a giant composter!

Watch this video on how Eden 'does waste'.
