Loquat

Eriobotrya japonica

Eriobotyra, or more commonly Loquat, is a very tropical looking tree for a sheltered garden or conservatory. In Britain it reaches 3-4m.

The exotic leaves are large, thick and glossy green with a white felted underside. The flowers are hermaphrodite and the yellow fruits borne in hot summers that follow, are edible either raw or cooked in pies.
