The Pomegranate tree is native to Iran and as well as being grown as a fruit crop, it also is often planted as an ornamental tree in parks. The Punica Granatum is drought tolerant, and is a brilliant plant for areas of very low rainfall.
The Pomegranate fruit contains many seeds, varying from 200 to over 1,000, which are used all over the world in cooking or most commonly now in juice or smoothies. The drink 'Grenadine' made from Pomegranates can be mixed with beer to make a North American drink known as 'Chritmas Beer'.
Properties
The Pomegranate packet contains 100 seeds, and the Pomegranate plant is perfect in pots and produces fruit in warm summers. It will need to be bought inside before the first frosts.
