  Unforgettable learning that changes lives

  Over 40,000 under-16s from 900 different schools visit our 'living classroom' each year. They get a unique opportunity to delve deep into the rainforest and form the vital connection with their environment that inspires them to want to conserve it.

  Students tell us they come away with a new understanding:

  Our Biome, the largest rainforest in captivity, has helped raise awareness of the value of the world’s rainforests amongst millions of people. But we want to do more and inspire more people to take action to conserve them – and we intend to do so by offering visitors a unique and inspiring new Rainforest Journey, complete with a mysterious canopy walkway and an authentic Base Camp.

  The new walkway stretching through our Rainforest Biome will take visitors on a journey of discovery. On this journey, the story of rainforests, their plight and the hope for their future will unfold.

  Green Talent is a sustainable careers-focussed scheme to help students see how they can personally become part of a greener future.

  Helping youth build their future

  Green Talent offers young people a rich learning experience at an eco-centre, followed by a work placement that gives real-life insights into sustainability.

  Led by the Eden Project, alongside the RSPB and Royal Botanic Gardens Kew, the programme aims to increase participants' knowledge about mankind's dependence on nature and to show how they can help society adapt to a low-carbon economy through their future career.

  One student who took part says: 'It has changed the whole way that I think… totally. Now I know I can do something.'

• Empowering homeless people

  

  Our facilitated day trips to Eden offer inspiration to homeless people and excluded youth, and the chance to see things from a new perspective.

  Empowering the homeless

  Eden’s Great Day Out programme reaches out to homeless people, ex-offenders and excluded young people. By offering them a tailor-made experience at our inspirational venue we help them build confidence, take positive steps forward and even improve their health.

  Regi suffered mental health problems following an abusive childhood in care, resulting in drug and alcohol abuse. He now volunteers to give something back to his local community and says 'Great Day Out gives people the chance… and shows them there is another way.'

  We have run more than 150 Great Days Out, involving over 1,500 people. Help us touch more lives.

• Growing gardeners

  

  Our horticultural apprenticeship scheme trains individuals up to be professional horticulturists, helping to remedy the UK's real shortage of skilled gardeners.

  Passing on traditional skills

  In a rapidly changing world, where climate, carbon and food security will have a dramatic impact on the way we work, professional horticulture is perhaps more important than ever before. And yet there is a shortage of trained gardeners in the UK today.

  By offering funded apprenticeships at Eden each year we are passing on this traditional craft, as well as developing a workforce which will be able to take innovative new approaches to these issues.

  John Porter, now part of Eden's Rainforest Biome team, started his horticultural career as an apprentice at Eden. Having been made redundant from a job as a Saville Row tailor in his forties, he says 'the variety of the work has been great. I’ve loved my time in the Biomes, outdoors, in the nursery, learning everything from seed sowing to pruning.’

  It costs £6,020 a year for us to train a horticultural apprentice. Help us do more.
