Building a botanical institute (nearly) from scratch

Monday 13 February
3-4pm, Foundation Building, free to Eden Friends and Staff, also open to visitors

In this talk subtitled 'A tale of philanthropy and fortitude', Dr. S. H. Sohmer, President of the Botanical Research Institute of Texas (BRIT), shares his personal experience of how BRIT has grown from a three-man crew operating in a warehouse space, in 1993, in to the impressive institute of the present day.

Today, the 30-strong team manages a collection of over 1 million herbarium specimens, a library of some 50,000 books and journals and a powerful public education programme – all housed in a cutting-edge green building in Fort Worth.

Pasty Making at the Eden bakery

Following the inaugural World Pasty Championships at Eden on Saturday 3 March, join the team behind our special Eden pasties as they give you a demonstration on how to make the perfect Cornish pasty.

Try your hand at crimping the Cornish way and find out what makes our pasties so unique.
Demonstration includes a pasty lunch. Numbers are limited so please book quickly to avoid disappointment.

A tour of the Mediterranean Biome

Join the Mediterranean Biome supervisor Catherine Cutler, and Eden Pollinator David Diaper, on a behind the scenes tour.

Spring in the biome is an exciting time of year and Catherine will guide you through some of the horticultural highlights as well as letting you in on our planting plans and developments, whilst David provides the stories behind the plants.

Behind the scenes at Watering Lane

Meet our new Nursery Manager James Wagstaffe as he gives you an exclusive behind the scenes tour of the Eden Nurseries, where we nurture all the plants that go into making Eden what it is, including our rainforest giants. Refreshments will be provided by the People and Gardens team, who are based at the nursery. 

The Green Fingered Fete

Saturday 12 May
10am-3pm, The Eden Project, Free

This year's plant sale will feature themed stalls, including the Allotment, the Flower Garden and Tropical Treasures, as well as children’s activities, a gardeners' question time and a plant tombola. The money raised will go towards two of Eden's charitable projects: our Gardens for Life international schools network and our Grow a Gardener horticultural apprenticeship scheme.
