Eden Friends events diary
Our Friend's events programme is always packed with unique activities, tours and talks from a wide range of people, from Eden and beyond.
These regular membership events are specially designed for Eden Friends, offering a programme of talks, tours and demonstrations that focus on everything from gardening to the environment to good food.
Past events have included a talk from Alan Titchmarsh, a demonstration from ethnobotanist James Wong, guided tours of our Mediterranean and Rainforest Biomes with our expert horticulturalists, and even a trip abroad to the real rainforest.
Forthcoming Friends events
Heroes of Chernobyl
When: Tuesday 23 April, 6pm
Where: Eden Project, Foundation Building
Price: Free
As part of Chernobyl Action week, two heroes of Chernobyl, known as liquidators, together with an interpreter, have been invited to the South West from Belarus and Ukraine by the UK charity, Chernobyl Children’s Life Line.
The ‘liquidators’ are the brave men and women from the former USSR who risked their lives to help stabilise the stricken Chernobyl reactor and ‘clean up’ the highly contaminated areas around the site. In just seven months a huge sarcophagus structure was constructed to entomb the remains of the reactor, built of concrete and steel, under horrific deadly radioactive conditions.
We are delighted to be having two liquidators visit our region to give their first-hand accounts of what took place in 1986 and how they were involved with the aftermath of the world’s worst nuclear disaster.
This will be a unique opportunity to listen, learn from and question these witnesses from Chernobyl. See the Eden Magazine for more details on the Heroes of Chernobyl and the work of Chernobyl Children’s Life Line.

Eden's new Rainforest Walkway - behind the scenes
When: Tuesday 14 May, 3pm - 4.30pm
Where: Meet in the Eden Bakery
Price: Free to Eden Friends
Phase one of our exciting new Rainforest Walkway is nearing completion and will be open to the public later this summer. We have always wanted to take people into the treetops to teach them about the importance of the canopy and the life it holds; now that our rainforest is mature we are doing just that by building the canopy walkways.
Phase one of the walkway includes an expedition base camp and two large sections of walkway leading out into the treetops to a platform which will hold The Nest, to be completed in phase two.
We are inviting Eden Friends to come and meet the team behind the build and see how it is progressing. The Rainforest Biome at Eden is a unique and special environment which presents its own tests and challenges. Luckily our experienced team are well equipped to deal with them.
The talk will include a hard hat tour of the build site in the East Africa area of the Rainforest Biome. Numbers are limited to please book early to avoid disappointment.
Sea and Shore Cornwall
When: Thursday 6 June, 5pm - 6pm
Where: The Film Room
Price: Free to Eden Friends
Lisa Woollett is a photographer, with a photographer’s eye for the quirky, the beautiful and the overlooked. She has been wandering the margins between the Cornish sea and the Cornish land, looking, collecting, photographing the waves, the rocks, the creatures and – times being what they are – the debris of the waters.
The result is a fascinating book Sea and Shore Cornwall, which contains many of her magnificent photographs, interspersed with her atmospheric descriptions of what she has seen and found.
Join Lisa as she exhibits her wonderful images and tells the story of how Sea and Shore Cornwall came about.
