The Eden Project has closed temporarily – find out more. You can still explore our free resources on gardening, green living, play and more on our website and our social media channels.

What course did you study, and what attracted you to that course in the first place?

I studied the HND Garden & Landscape Design. The background and experience of the Programme Manager and the academic staff were what attracted to me the course the most.

How did you feel the course prepared you for your career ahead?

The course focussed upon a wide range of subjects, all of which combined gave us a good grounding to develop in the future.

What was the best thing about the course?

We had regular opportunities to present our work to others on the course and on occasions to outside clients.

What have you gone on to do since graduating?

I immediately started my own garden design studio and have been working full-time as a garden designer ever since.

Any advice for people considering entering the industry?

Do not underestimate the need for IT skills. Much time is spent working with software. I use AutoCAD, Sketchup, Photoshop and InDesign, all of which are invaluable at communicating design ideas. Added to this is the need to become confident addressing an audience, which is vital.
