Eden statement on the sad passing of Lord George
The following is a statement from Tim Smit, Chief Executive of The Eden Project, following the sad death of Lord George.
"All of those who worked with Lord George at Eden are very saddened to hear of his passing and we offer our sincere condolences to his family.
"Eddie, as he liked to be known, was appointed a Trustee in 2003 after he stood down from his post as Governor of the Bank of England and in July 2007 he became Chairman of Trustees. He stood down as Chairman at the most recent meeting of the Trustees due to his declining health.
"His retirement from the Bank of England was a considerable loss to the financial world but a real gain for Cornwall and for the Eden Trust. We were very fortunate that he chose to make Cornwall his home and bring his stature and huge experience to the Trust. In his years with Eden he made a great contribution to the strategic development of the project and the effects of his profound and positive work will be with us far into the future. We will also remember him for his kindliness and good humour. He will be sadly missed."
