Throughout the summer holidays, there will be free activities for all the family in St Austell town centre every Monday from 10am until 4pm.

The events, which are all part of the St Austell Live programme hosted by the Eden Project , will take place outside the Eden Café in White River Place if sunny. If the weather is wet, it will be in the nearby temporary studio space opposite Costa Coffee. The activities are all free and people are welcome to drop in with no need to book.

After kicking off the month with circus skills with the Swamp Circus on August 1, the next activity will be a tile-making workshop with ceramicist Jenny Beavan and members of the Eden workshop team on August 8. People will be able to make their own clay creations as well as learning about the history of Cornwall’s china clay.

On August 15, the Eden workshop team will be joined by artist Reg Payn for lantern making, which is a great way start preparing for the St Austell Torchlight Carnival in the autumn. O

n August 22, Reg Payn and the Eden team will be teaching people how to make shadow puppets and then turning the space into a shadow performance puppet theatre so that everyone has a chance to show off their handiwork .

The month of activities will finish with a mosaic-making workshop with talented potter Jane Marks on August 29. All the materials are free and people are welcome to take their mosaics home with them.

Emma Mansfield, St Austell Live programme co-ordinator, said: "We’ve had great success with the St Austell Live activities so far and it’s lovely to be able to continue into the summer holidays to ensure that people visiting the town have a great start to the week.”

The St Austell Live programme has been funded by a grant from Cornwall Council for the Eden Project to undertake an events programme aimed at attracting more people to the town centre.

The programme is part of the Eco-communities Programme of Development awarded to Cornwall Council by the Department of Communities and Local Government.
