The Eden Project has won a prestigious award naming it the nation’s best attraction for coach visits.

Eden was announced the winner of the ‘Most Coach Friendly Tourist Attraction’ prize in the 2012 UK Coach Awards held at the Mercure Piccadilly Hotel in Manchester last night (Thursday, April 19).

The award recognises leisure and tourist attractions which have gone the extra mile to accommodate, attract and welcome coaches, their drivers and passengers.

Coach operators were asked to nominate attractions throughout the country whose service they had admired during the last 12 months.

Judges praised the welcome given to coach visitors at Eden including a familiarisation talk given by stewards on information and events on site.

They also highlighted Eden’s two coach parks and dedicated drop-off point, a free coach wash area and free admission for drivers.

Carol Barrett, Eden’s group bookings coordinator, said: “We’re delighted to win this award which recognises the welcome we provide for coach passengers and drivers and the high standard of customer service we deliver. It’s a real feather in our cap.

“The travel trade and coach industry is a particularly important part of our business and our thanks go to our customers and the companies who nominated and judged Eden and continue to support us.”

The runner-up in the category was West Midland Safari and Leisure Park in Worcestershire with Alton Towers Resort in Staffordshire and Royal Yacht Britannia in Edinburgh being highly commended.
