Eden celebrates Harvest this September
The Eden Project is going for gold this autumn with its jam-packed Harvest at Eden celebration from September 8-16.
The event will be filled with exciting demonstrations by celebrity chefs, talks by food and drink experts, live music and mouthwatering tastings of food, beer, wine and cider. On Thursday September 13 Eden opens for a one-off Harvest late opening with a flavour-fest food extravaganza, live music and entertainment.
Among an array of guest speakers will be feisty Masterchef judge, Monica Galetti, celebrity chef Michel Roux Jnr’s second in command, 2009 Masterchef winner Mat Follas, owner of The Wild Garlic Restaurant, in Dorset, Andy Appleton, Head Chef at Fifteen Cornwall, Michael Smith, Head Chef at Porthminster Beach Café in St Ives, Sanjay Kumar, Slow Food Cornwall, Paul Ripley and Paul Ainsworth, No. 6 Restaurant Padstow.
Other must-see talks and demos over the two weeks of Harvest at Eden include Sophie Atherton, Britain’s only beer sommelier, pop-superstar turned celebrity chef Paul Young, Carol Drinkwater, former actress and author of The Olive Farm and James Wong author and TV horticulturist.
Gabi Gilkes, Programme Production Coordinator said: “This is the second year Eden has celebrated Harvest and we have made sure that it is overflowing with fantastic stories, tastes and a real celebration of everything from the plough to the plate. We are delighted to be bringing such a smorgasbord of flavour to our visitors this year.”
Each day will see different areas of the project transformed into harvest-havens with a variety of activities on offer.
At the Cook Zone there are baking demos, hand-milling, corn dolly workshops and demonstrations from exciting local chefs, including the trainees from Jamie Oliver’s Watergate Bay restaurant Fifteen on Friday September 14.
The main stage in the Mediterranean Biome will host live music, “Tales from the Potting Shed”- talks from the Eden horticulture team, daily beer and wine tasting, chef talks and an ask the experts debate.
On the other side of the Biome, on the Med Deck a wide variety of tasting plates will be on offer with a delicious selection of anti-pasti and also a painting-with-nature session each day throughout the celebration.
The Bandstand outside of Eden’s link building will feature cider tasting activities and talks and apple pressing with experts on hand to answer questions on the intricacies of both specialties. The whole area will be brought alive by Eden’s own skiffle band, The Butter Thieves.
To the left of the bandstand is the A Sense of Place Garden, which celebrates the history of wine with tasting sessions and grape treading with the team from local vineyard and restaurant, Knightor.
