The Eden Project is holding a special farewell ceremony to send Father Christmas on his way on Sunday, December 23, before his big night.

Father Christmas has been using Eden as a base-camp in the run up to Christmas and children who have visited the project have helped him collect special food for the reindeers.

At 4.45pm on Sunday, December 23, Father Christmas will leave his grotto with his elves to walk through the Mediterranean Biome and meet children who may not have had the chance to see him yet. They can then hand over any last-minute letters to him before his departure.

Visitors will gather below the Eden Christmas tree, waving and singing as Father Christmas bids the crowd farewell before he leaves on his epic journey.

Chris Pritchard, Eden Programme Manager, said: “This is a wonderful chance to see Father Christmas and his elves and for children to hand over letters. Father Christmas and his reindeer have been wonderful guests and we would like for everyone to come and join us to bid him farewell and bon voyage.”

On the day of Father Christmas’s departure (Sunday December 23), Eden will be open from 10am until 6pm with the ice-rink open all day.

The festive season at Eden including spectacular lantern parades (with late night openings on Friday and Saturday nights) continues until December 30, except December 23.

The Eden reindeer will be on site at Eden every day until Dec 30 (except Christmas Eve and Christmas Day when Eden is closed). Traditional Scandinavian Sami stories will be told every day in the Mediterranean Biome at 12pm and 2pm and at 6pm on the late opening evenings.

The Eden Choir and the Bragatanga band, with their exotic and vibrant mix of world folk music, warm up the winter festival with performances taking place in the Mediterranean Biome on all late opening evenings.

During the season visitors can create wonderful Christmas decorations in the workshops in the Mediterranean Biome with sessions open every Friday (12-8pm), Saturday (10am-8pm) and Sunday (10am-5pm) before Christmas.

Across the site visitors can feast on some unusual treats as well as more traditional fare throughout our winter festival.
