Electro soul duo Hot D’Jour have been chosen by Jessie J to open the main stage for both of her performances at the Eden Sessions next month (July 13 and 14).

The once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to support Jessie J was thrown open to artists of any genre based in Cornwall and Devon.

The entries were shortlisted by an expert panel of judges made up of Eden Sessions promoter John Empson and top music writers Jackie Butler (Culture Editor of the Western Morning News) and Lee Trewhela (editor of the Cornish Guardian, West Briton and Cornishman’s What’s On supplement).

Jessie J herself then chose the winners Hot D’Jour from the shortlist.

The band, who mix their up-tempo soul with a touch of hip-hop, are singer-songwriter Hollie G and producer-drummer Denzil Lowndes. Based in Cornwall and Bristol, the pair have been working together for five years.

Denzil started off as a bassist and then drummer for bands in Penzance and Falmouth. He met Hollie in Bristol where she was working with Roni Size and Massive Attack among others.

They have previously played at Glastonbury and London’s Jazz Café as well as supporting Swedish electro outfit Little Dragon.

Rita Broe, Eden’s Strategic Marketing Director, said: “We had a massive response to the competition and it’s great to see that we have so much musical talent in Cornwall and Devon.

“Hot D’Jour are deserved winners and are the perfect act to open these shows. We’re very pleased to be able to give them the opportunity to support a genuine pop superstar in front of a full house at Eden.”

Also playing the main stage at Jessie J’s Eden Sessions will be new pop sensation A*M*E who had a number one in April with the infectious Need U (100%), a collaboration with Duke Dumont and MNEK.

The Eden Sessions are in their twelfth year in 2013 and Eddie Izzard kicked off the season with a sell-out show on June 3. Forthcoming headliners this year are Kaiser Chiefs (June 29), Sigur Rós (June 30), The xx (July 2) and Jessie J (July 13 and 14).

Live footage of some of the biggest bands in the world playing at the Eden Sessions is now available to fans for free. The exclusive live videos, which were shot at Eden Sessions gigs since 2002, have been released onto a dedicated YouTube channel called Eden Sessions TV at New tracks and artists will be added to channel regularly.

Tickets to Jessie J’s July 14 show are now sold out but a limited number of tickets are still available for the other Sessions. To book, contact the Eden Box Office on 01726 811972 or visit
