Eden Project Ltd Executive Director Gaynor Coley is to leave the project to join the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew, as Director of Public Programmes.

Gaynor joined Eden as Finance Director in 1997, became Managing Director in 2000 and is currently Executive Director.  Her new appointment at Kew takes effect in the autumn.

Making the announcement today, Judith Donovan CBE, Non Executive Chairman of Eden Project Ltd, said:  “This is a fantastic opportunity for Gaynor.  We all wish her well.  She will be sorely missed at Eden.”

Marcus Agius, Chairman of Trustees at Kew, said of Gaynor’s pending appointment:  “We look forward to this strengthening the working relationship between Kew and Eden.” 

Gaynor led the financing of the £141.4m Eden Project and once it became fully operational became MD with responsibility for operations, finance and education. During her time in charge Eden has welcomed more than 14 million visitors, won Best UK Leisure Attraction at the British Travel Awards in 2011 and 2012 and this year, 2013, will highlight Eden’s status as a centre for education with the arrival of the 500,000th school pupil.

In 2005 the ICAEW (South West) awarded Gaynor Best All Rounder Trophy and in 2009 she received the CBI Real Business First Women Award in Tourism and Leisure.
