Autumn is in full bloom at the Eden Project as the Sweet Gum (Liquidambar Styraciflua) trees which line the north-west edge of the pit have turned a fiery shade of red.

Sweet Gum trees are native to southern and eastern states of the US and their name derives from the aromatic resin emitted from their bark. Their bright foliage is complemented at Eden by purple-leaved plum trees, red viburnum and yellow willow.

Eden was recently named the best UK leisure attraction at the British Travel Awards for the third year running.
