Pixies go Cornish as Boston’s finest head for Eden Sessions
Alternative rock icons Pixies have been announced as headliners for this year’s Eden Sessions.
The hugely-influential US band, who can count David Bowie, Bono and Thom Yorke among their most ardent admirers, are the fourth major act announced this year and will play at Eden on Wednesday July 9.
Pixies join Ellie Goulding (July 8 – sold out), Elbow (July 14) and Dizzee Rascal (June 21) on the bill for the 2014 Eden Sessions with ASUS Transformer Book. More acts will be announced soon.
Making the announcement today, Rita Broe, Eden’s Marketing Director, said: “For nearly 30 years Pixies have been one of the most revered rock bands in the world and have inspired a galaxy of other top artists.
“We are massively excited to be able to welcome them to Eden. It feels like Pixies and the Sessions is a marriage made in rock heaven. With their addition to an already massive bill, this promises to be our best Sessions season ever.”
Formed in Boston, Massachusetts in 1986, Pixies are Black Francis (lead vocals, rhythm guitar), Joey Santiago (lead guitar), and David Lovering on drums, and will be joined by touring bassist Paz Lenchantin on the band’s summer UK/European dates. Last September, Pixies released EP-1 and then EP-2 in January, the band’s first collection of new music in more than 20 years.
Thom Yorke has said that while at school, "the Pixies had changed my life". Bono said they were "one of America's greatest bands ever" and Bowie has said that Pixies made "just about the most compelling music of the entire 80s."
The Eden Sessions enter their thirteenth year in 2014 following an acclaimed series of gigs in 2013 headlined by Jessie J, Sigur Ros, The xx, Kaiser Chiefs and Eddie Izzard.
Last year also saw the launch of Eden Sessions TV, a dedicated free-to-view online channel featuring regularly-updated videos of some of the gigs’ finest shows, including recently-uploaded footage from Muse’s legendary 2006 show (http://youtu.be/X0_yJ9VXu6U). The channel also live-streamed the second night of Jessie J’s sold-out double-header and has already had more than a million views since its launch.
