A thrilling journey 67 million years back in time to the lost world of dinosaurs awaits adventure seekers at the Eden Project this summer.

Dinosaurs Unleashed, which runs from July 21, will turn visitors into true explorers as they track down and discover amazing things about the giant beasts that used to rule the planet.

In The Crater of the Tyrant King, they will be able to step boldly into an ancient, exotic landscape of raw earth, rocks, roots, ferns, dripping mosses and giant redwood trees, habitat of the frog, snake and giant centipede.

They will have an amazing close encounter with the most feared predator of all, a Tyrannosaurus rex, as it devours its Triceratops prey. This incredibly detailed immersive experience promises to be a sensory feast that visitors will never forget.

Beyond the crater, they will have the chance to hone their explorer skills by searching for an escaped dinosaur.  If they are brave enough they will come within touching distance of the lost monster.

The Dig Pit will provide adventure of a different kind as families burrow down to discover a fossilised Stegosaurus skeleton and see how palaeontologists first found and pieced together the giants of the past.

First base for all explorers will be Basecamp where they will learn what they need to complete their quest around the Eden site.

At the Explorer Field Stations they will find out all about explorers from the past and maybe even the present and find out why they made history and what we can learn from them.

In the Dinosaur Exhibition in the Core they will explore why dinosaurs are endlessly fascinating, why scientists think they were so big and delve into some of the theories of how they were wiped out 65 million years ago.

Here, too, they will be able to go nose-to-nose with history by viewing  an amazing collection of dinosaur fossils including real dinosaur eggs, a fossilised brain, a whole skeleton and a real T.rex tooth.

Dr Jo Elworthy, Eden’s Director of Interpretation, said:  “Dinosaurs Unleashed will be the biggest, most compelling summer activity Eden has ever staged.

“As well as immersing you into the Cretaceous world to give you an amazing close encounter with some incredibly realistic dinosaurs, you can become a dino detective and learn how scientists worked out how these incredible animals looked, what they ate, where and when they lived, how they moved and even how they smelt and saw.

“As a living reminder of the lost world of dinosaurs, you will be able to meet some of the plants that were around then and are still surviving and thriving with us today.

“We look forward to taking you back in time to meet some of the most extra-ordinary creatures to have ever roamed the earth, sea and skies.”
