Top conductor Simon Lee is promising a fabulous event for all the family when he leads a 70-piece orchestra at the Pixar in Concert show on July 5.

The event at the Eden Project features the music of some of the most celebrated animated films of recent years.

The breathtaking blend of live music and animation will take place on the main stage at Eden against the stunning backdrop of the world-famous Biomes.

It will feature the Disney Concert Orchestra performing music from 13 Disney Pixar films in front of a giant screen displaying high-definition clips of the movies.

This will be the first UK performance of the show since its debut in this country at London’s Royal Albert Hall in February, the first ever outdoor show in the UK and the only performance in the South West this summer.

With just over a week to go, conductor Simon is brimming with anticipation.

Simon, who served as Andrew Lloyd Webber’s musical supervisor on a number of high-profile productions, said: “There is a certain majesty to 70 people playing the same piece of music, which is part of the live experience. There is nothing else like it.

“I have never been to Eden before so I am very excited to go. My whole family has been so I am the last. I am sure it will be an amazing setting for this concert.

“Outdoor venues are always challenging which makes them more exciting. I am sure Eden will be no exception. If you haven’t experienced an outdoor concert then you are in for a real treat. The atmosphere is always very special.”

Simon added: “To see your favourite animation characters on the screen, enhanced by the presence of a full orchestra, will hopefully be an experience that will only make you love them more.

“The Pixar movies appeal to every generation and this will be a fabulous event for the entire family. What a great way to introduce your children to live music.”

The music has been specially arranged for the show, based on the original scores by Randy Newman, Michael Giacchino, Thomas Newman and Patrick Doyle. The arrangements take the audience on a magical journey through the Pixar back catalogue.

Pixar in Concert will feature scores from all of the studio’s films, including the Toy Story trilogy, Cars, Finding Nemo, Wall-E, Up and The Incredibles.
The Disney Concert Orchestra (DCO) comprises some of the finest orchestral musicians in the UK, many of whom perform regularly with leading orchestras such as the Royal Philharmonic, London Philharmonia and London Symphony Orchestra.

The DCO performed to over 60,000 people at The Magic of Disney In Concert, which headlined the Queen's Jubilee Festival in Hyde Park.

Rita Broe, Eden’s marketing director, said: “Just one week to go before this very exciting show at Eden. It wowed audiences young and old in London, and Eden is the only place it will be performed this summer.

“Millions of people in the UK have grown up with Pixar films, from 1995’s groundbreaking Toy Story to more recent releases such as the Cars series, Brave and the wonderful Up. The music of these films is a big part of their charm and emotional impact.

“Seeing a full orchestra perform is a very special experience and this show is a great opportunity to introduce that spectacle to children, with music and characters from their favourite films.”

Tickets are priced at £32.50 for adults, £25 for children and £105 for a family of two adults and two children.

Tickets can be bought by calling the Eden box office on 01726 811972.

All tickets include entry to the Eden Project from 9.30am with the show starting at 7.30pm and finishing at 9.40pm. There will be a 30 minute interval.
