The Eden Project is hosting Light Theatre’s new production The Magic Beanstalk as part of a weekend of theatrical family fun activities on November 22 and 23.

As well as the chance to catch the acclaimed show, there will also be workshops on puppet-making and music composing.

The Magic Beanstalk is Light Theatre’s debut show and has gone down well with critics, including a five-star review in The Times in which they called it “a little miracle of a show”.

Set in present day Cornwall, The Magic Beanstalk uses beautiful hand-carved puppets, illusions and amazing experiments to re-tell the classic story of Jack and the Giant who lives through the clouds and over the rainbow.

Cornwall-based Light Theatre’s members have previously worked on prestigious productions, including the West End hit War Horse and shows for the Royal Shakespeare Company, the Young Vic and Cornwall’s acclaimed Kneehigh Theatre.

The show will be available twice a day on a first come, first served basis at 1pm and 3:30pm in Eden’s Core building. Admission is included in the standard Eden price.

Light Theatre’s experienced puppeteers will also be running workshops to help visitors make their own puppets. These will be running at 11am and 2pm, also in the Core Building. The workshops cost £2 per person and are also available on a first come, first served basis.

As well as puppet-related fun, the day will include music sessions for all ages with Community Music Cornwall. Tots Rock, for zero to five years, introduces the world of music in a fun and playful way with musical games, singing and hand percussion.

Monster Music sessions are aimed at five to 13 years incorporating anything from rock music to singing and songwriting. Both these activities can also be found in the Core building and are included in the standard Eden price.

In addition to these special weekend events Eden also has its regular storytelling sessions in the Mediterranean Biome at midday and 2pm. Eden’s ice rink has general skating sessions throughout the weekend and on Sunday will have a special skate-free parent and toddler play session from 9.30am and skating fun and games for 6-12 year olds from 10.45am.

Emma Hogg, Eden’s Site Wide Live Production Producer, said “We are very excited to have Light Theatre performing here at the Eden Project. This is a great opportunity to see a brilliant new theatre company perform their acclaimed debut show as well as getting some top tips on puppet-making from the experts.”
