The Eden Project in Cornwall was last night (Wednesday November 26, 2014) acclaimed as Best UK Leisure Attraction for a record-breaking fourth year running at the travel industry ‘Oscars.’

The prestigious British Travel Awards are the biggest of their kind in the industry. Winners are shortlisted by a panel of professionals and chosen by public vote.

In what was a great night for Cornwall, as well as Eden’s triumph, the award for Best UK Holiday County/Destination was won by Visit Cornwall for the sixth year running.

The awards were presented at a gala dinner at Battersea Evolution in London.

Gordon Seabright, Director of the Eden Project, said:  “We would like to say a massive ‘thank you’ to everyone who voted for Eden.

“Being acclaimed best leisure attraction by the public for the fourth year running in competition with some truly world-class destinations is an amazing honour for Eden and the entire team.  And how great that yet again, Cornwall has grabbed a top prize in its class.

“For Eden it has been an epic 12 months.  We had our best summer for several years thanks to our brilliant garden and Biomes and activities such as Dinosaurs Unleashed and a great Eden Sessions set of concerts.  We are now on the eve of the fabulous Christmas at Eden season and looking ahead to what promises to be another memorable year in 2015.”

In Eden’s category, LEGOLAND Windsor Resort won silver and The Scotch Whisky Experience gained a bronze.

The British Travel Awards have been running since 2008 and cover more than 75 categories including destinations, accommodation and customer care.

British Travel Awards’ chief executive Lorraine Barnes Burton said: “This year was a record breaking year for consumer voting with more than 1.2 million votes cast to determine the winners of the coveted British Travel Awards - the largest consumer voted awards programme in the UK; to win is truly an accolade.

“The travelling public regard the British Travel Awards winners’ logo as the benchmark for excellence when it comes to finding out who really are the best travel companies and Eden is to be congratulated on the achievement.”

The British Travel Awards is a proudly independent organisation, with all votes scrutinised and verified by leading global accountancy practitioners Deloitte.

The BTAs are the only travel industry accolades voted for exclusively by the travelling public, and the Awards serve to recognise all that is great about the travel companies preferred by holidaymakers from Great Britain.
