Visitors to the Eden Project next weekend (January 24 and 25) are in for two days of primate mayhem with performances of a new puppet show called Monkey!

PuppetCraft, one of Britain’s most acclaimed touring puppet companies, will perform the show and also give Eden visitors the opportunity to take part in puppet-making workshops throughout the weekend.

Monkey! was adapted from an ancient Chinese story called Journey to the West by acclaimed poet and former Children’s Laureate Michael Rosen. The show is performed with beautifully hand carved wooden puppets.

Monkey! is a magical story about a mischievous monkey who can fly on a cloud, turn invisible and is in search of a great secret. This is a puppet show is perfect for ages four and above.

The performance of Monkey! will be in the Core building on both days at 11am, 1.30pm and 3.30pm. Each performance lasts an hour and then will be followed by an informal “meet the puppets” session.

As well as watching the puppet show, visitors can try their hand at the ancient art of shadow play. The workshop provides a range of materials to allow people to create characters and bring them to life. These workshops will also be in the Core building on both days at 11.15am, 1.30pm and 2.30pm.

Kate Francis, Programme Producer, said: “We are very excited to be welcoming PuppetCraft to Eden to perform their new show Monkey!

“It’s always a delight to offer unique performances for our visitors to experience. The puppet making workshops are a great way for children to use their imaginations, create their own puppets and stories.”

Admission to Monkey! and the puppet making workshops are included in the Eden entry price. All the puppet performance activities have limited spaces and will be available on a first come, first served basis.

The Eden’s Locals’ Pass is still available to people who live in Cornwall or Devon.
