Eden Project unveils new space adventure at Royal Cornwall Show (June 7 – 9)

The Eden Project will be launching the ultimate space adventure holiday at the Royal Cornwall Show this week (stand 81).

A new programme of intergalactic activities will be taking place across Eden this summer including a Mission to Mars where visitors can blast off into the universe and learn all about life on the Red Planet.

Expedition Space, starting on July 21, will take everyone on an extra-terrestrial holiday of a lifetime where they can go planet-hopping, meet some alien friends and try their hand at Mercury mini golf or moon buggy driving.

The annual Royal Cornwall Show from June 7 to 9 will provide a sneak glimpse of the space excitement to come at Eden.

Show visitors can find out about this summer’s number one holiday destination at the Eden stand which will be decked out as a space travel agency.

They can find out about caving on Saturn’s moon Titan, scaling the icy slopes of Jupiter’s moon Europa and how to survive on barren Mars.

There will also be a constellation wall lighting challenge, a planet-hopping Renault Space Twizy and some futuristic plants on show.

Touring the showground will be the Tardigrade, a larger-than-life special guest star from Eden’s new Invisible Worlds exhibition. This hardy microorganism has been shown to be able to survive in space.

Polly Randle, Eden Live Programme Lead, said: “The Royal Cornwall Show will be the first chance for everyone to get a flavour of what we have in store for our all new space adventure programme Expedition Space.

“If you’ve ever wondered what it would be like to go on holiday to space come and find out about the many interplanetary activities you’ll be able to do at Eden this summer.”

Expedition Space takes place at Eden everyday throughout the summer holidays from July 21 to September 2.

The journey takes off from the Stage and will showcase the wonders of our stars and galaxies before culminating in a dramatic landing on the Red Planet.

Passengers can see the majesty of Mars and find out from a resident Martian expert what it would take to live in this barren landscape.

The planet-hopping continues with a bucket list of activities including mini golf on the cratered surface of Mercury, caving on Titan, Saturn’s rocky moon, and a lunar driving test on a slot-car buggy. These activities all take place in Eden’s Arena, Orchard and outdoor gardens.

Back on Earth, there is a new family show where audiences can ‘meet a local’ in the form of an friendly alien who can give everyone the lowdown on space travel. There will also be daily space storytelling by Eden narrators and space-themed entertainment shows.

A bespoke new virtual reality experience, taking visitors on a thrilling trip across the fiery surface of Venus, has been created especially for Expedition Space.

The experience will see intrepid visitors strap on VR headsets and have their real-life steps tracked and replicated in the experience. They will have to traverse obstacles and take in the planet’s breath-taking surface while they make their way to their spaceship.

The Eden stand will be open throughout the Royal Cornwall Show from June 7 to 9.

Annual Locals’ Passes and Eden Sessions tickets will be on sale at the stand.

The Renault Space Twizy is a display model that is not available to buy.
