Father Christmas and his elves took a break from their duties at the Eden Project to bring seasonal cheer to patients at Eden Ward at the Royal Cornwall Hospital (Treliske).

Eden has a special relationship with the women’s ward at Treliske since patients and staff decided to rename it after the project in 2015.

Father Christmas, two of his elf helpers and Eden Chief Executive Gordon Seabright called in this week (Tuesday, December 18) with gifts of baobab and lavender hand creams and rosehip and lemongrass moisturisers.

Patient Doreen Carter said: “It is so lovely for Father Christmas to visit. I wish I had something sparkly on for the occasion!”

Tash Trewhela, Matron of Eden Ward, said: “The Eden Ward staff always look forward to a visit from Father Christmas and his elves.

“It really brightens the stay for the patients - it’s not just children that love this time of year.”

Gordon said: “We are so proud of our association with Eden Ward and that staff and patients chose to name their ward after the Eden Project.

“We love this time of year and we’re really pleased to be able to divert Father Christmas and his elves from their duties at Eden to bring some festive cheer to everyone on Eden Ward.”

Earlier this year Eden horticulturists donated an array of plants to Eden Ward to brighten up two of the ward’s waiting rooms which are often used by patients awaiting surgery.

The rooms are now decorated with tropical foliage such as emerald palms, (Zamioculcas zamiifolia) areca palms (Dypsis lutescens) and luscious succulents such as Crassula.

Eden has also donated pictures to display in the ward and commissioned an artist to create a mural inspired by the Rainforest Biome for the day room.

Father Christmas and his elves will be at the Eden Project until Christmas Eve and there is still availability for their shows today and tomorrow (Wednesday and Thursday, December 19 and 20).

Their performances run alongside the Shadows and Light after-dark extravaganza featuring mesmerising displays of light, colour and music across Eden.
