Choirs from around the world will be filling the Biomes with song when the Cornwall International Male Choral Festival returns to the Eden Project next month.

On Sunday May 5 and Monday May 6, the Mediterranean Biome will provide an epic backdrop to 15 choirs, including those from Australia, Finland, the Netherlands and two from South Africa.

Eden has been a host to this event since it started in 2003 and is one of 40 venues the festival is visiting.

One of the choirs performing at Eden is the Barnstaple Male Voice Choir from Devon, founded in 1919 to mark the YMCA’s re-opening after the end of the First World War.

In the 1930s the choir auditioned to perform for the BBC which led to more than 20 broadcasts over the next 25 years. This event will mark 100 years since the choir was formed.

Demelza Lee of Eden’s event management team said: “We are very excited to be part of the Cornwall International Male Choral Festival once again, with fabulous choirs joining us from far and wide.

“We hope our visitors enjoy the variety of choirs  performing over the course of the two days and that it adds to their experience of visiting Eden.”

Overall around 60 choirs will be taking part in the festival, the largest of its kind in the world, and will be performing at 50 different events throughout Cornwall.

The festival takes place every two years and showcases the very best of male voice singing from around the world.
