Good gourd! Pumpkin shot is pick of the bunch in Eden photo contest
A charming picture of a little boy with a pumpkin has snapped up the top prize in the Eden Project’s sixth annual photo competition.
Tiffany Hargraves Phillips was on a family visit to Cornwall from north London in August when she took pictures of son Afon with the giant fruit in Eden’s great outdoors.
Her sunny image was chosen by a panel of judges as the best among many thousands of entries. Judges were looking for creativity and capturing the essence of Eden and decided Tiffany’s shot was spot on.
She receives a Canon EOS 2000D DSLR camera and a host of accessories as the top prize.
Tiffany said: “I think it’s an amazing initiative for the Eden Project to encourage people to share their pics. There are so many under the hashtag edenphotocomp that I never would have guessed we’d win.
“Afon was particularly hilarious that day, and this shot is a real tell-all of his character - strong-willed, independent and funny. He’s two and a half and loves taking photos lately.
“It’s almost as if it’s come natural to him, but we do live in an age where we are surrounded by photography daily.”
Tiffany added: “Winning this Canon means we can really start to share more exciting photographic moments with him, encourage his own ambition to take photos, and make some great memories. We’re really excited!”
Morgan Roberts from Leek, Staffordshire wins second prize, a Canon PowerShot SX740 HS camera, for a shot taken on the Cloud Bridge in the Rainforest Biome during a family holiday in September.
Morgan said: “I love yoga (and headstands!) and when we saw the Cloud Bridge we thought it was an amazing opportunity to capture a striking image.
“I'm thrilled to have won the camera and this will definitely be accompanying us on many family holidays and outings to capture lots of special memories.”
Placed third is Abi Hitchcock from Copplestone in Devon for a picture of her working sheepdog Tia in a field of wildflowers at Eden. Abi wins a Canon Zoemini photo printer.
Eden’s digital content manager Tom Trinkle said: “Our sixth annual photo contest attracted a fabulous gallery of pictures and as ever it was hard for the panel to choose winners. Tiffany’s picture of Afon and the pumpkin was the pick of the bunch. The shot conveys a lovely, happy moment.”
Entries to the competition were posted with the hashtag #edenphotocomp on either Twitter or Instagram. The Eden Project can be found at @edenproject on Twitter and at @edenprojectcornwall on Instagram.
