Ensete Ventricosum (Banana)

Also called the False Banana, Ensete Ventricosum is a great, quick growing foliage plant for your garden.

With a bright red stripe down the middle of the big leaves, it will also add colour and shape. Ensete Ventricosum is the most important food crop in Ethiopia. The fruit is not edible, but as the plant is maturing in the first 4-5 years of its life, about 40kg of roots can be harvested and used for food.

This makes the banana ensete a very valuable food and economy source. Ensete ventricosum is very drought resistant, hence why it beats some cereal crops in the hotter, dryer parts of Africa as the main food crop.

A half hardy perennial, the banana plant will need wrapping in fleece and protecting from the colder winter and frosts.

Each packet contains 4 seeds and full growing instructions.
