Field Poppy

Plant your own field of poppies with our poppy seeds.

The field poppy (Papaver rhoeas) is known by many names such as corn poppy and the famous Flanders poppy - a symbol for fallen soldiers. Planting the poppy seeds in your garden is a great way to add colour and beauty through this wildflower. It is also an important plant for bees and makes an attractive pollinating insect attractant!

The silky red flowers are both delicate and triumphant, and commonly occur in ground that has been disturbed. It is a fickle germinator and can sometimes colonise a corn field to the point that the poppy looks like the actual crop. The poppy flowers between May and August, and once the seed head appears, these can be used as an attractive cut flower for indoors.

Did you know that in 2002 the field poppy was voted the county flower of Essex and Norfolk? It can also be found on the Canadian 10 dollar note and is our remembrance day poppy.

There are approximately 5000 seeds in the packet which are from cultivated stock. Please do not scatter any of the seeds into the countryside. Please be aware that all parts of the field poppy can be harmful. If consumed, seek immediate medicinal advice.
