The mushroom log is either a Cornish beech or oak log harvested from local sustainable woodlands which have been inoculated with spawn from the oyster mushroom (Pleurotus Ostreatus).

Oyster mushrooms are prized in China and Japan for their incredible flavour and health benefits, oyster mushrooms are versatile and nutritious.

They get their name from their appearance, not their flavour, which is earthy and mild. The oyster mushroom is one of the few known carnivorous mushrooms; its mycelium trap nematodes and extract nutrients from them.

Oyster mushrooms and other closely related species naturally produce Lovastatin, a drug approved by the FDA in 1987 for treating excessive cholesterol in the blood.

The mushroom log is perfect for those with a shady damp area in their garden. The log can be plonked outside and watered approximately once a week when the bark is dry. Full instructions come with your log.

Your mushroom log will be fully colonised by the fungi and be ready to fruit up to twice a year in response to the changing seasons.

The mushroom growing kit comes with full care instructions as well as helpful hints and tips in how to produce mushrooms from your logs for many years.

They are wrapped in degradable bubble wrap which keeps them nice and damp until they can go outside.
