This hammock with spreader bar is made from 350g/m² thick material, making it durable and able to take up to 150kg in weight.
Amazonas hammocks are handmade in Brazil using shredded cotton cloth from the textile industry. Up to 100 people, in the extremely poor northeast of Brazil, now have secure jobs thanks to the production of Amazonas hammocks.
Hammocks originated in Latin America where the Maya people produced the first hammocks over 1000 years ago. In South and Central America, the hammock became a common sleeping and resting place for indigenous people, simultaneously protecting them against venomous and wild animals.
Christopher Columbus introduced the hammock to Europe, where it became popular for use aboard ships.
